I am proud to say I have spent 60 years teaching (1964-2024). I am a former Peace Corps volunteer in Uruguay, taught in Iran and in the inner city of North Camden, NJ, and on the reservations of northern Minnesota and Wisconsin. I have been a graduate assistant, university professor, high school principal, charter school director, and K-12 teacher. I have authored nearly 2000 columns on education and written 25 books. I currently write columns for four newspapers. I also teach for the Peace Corps Volunteer Service Pilot. I work weekly with teacher educators in Ethiopia. In recent years I have also worked with students and teachers in Guatemala, Columbia, Ukraine, and the Republic of Georgia. I am the founder of Project Graduate, which aims for a 100% high school graduation rate for students, consuming most of my time and writing. Four times a week, I teach 10th and 11th graders in a class called “HOPE.” The class aims to help the students graduate from high school. To this end, I serve as a volunteer for the Red Lake Nation and as a board member for the Voyageurs Expeditionary Charter School. My wife, Kathy, and I live on the shores of Lake Julia, north of Bemidji, MN. Thank you for supporting our 100% movement! Please get in touch with me if you would like to learn more about how you can graduate 100% of your students.
Together, we can graduate 100% of our students!
Project Graduate began as an idea to close the retention and graduation gap between Native and white students.
The secret to closing the graduation gap? Community mindset. Discover how Red Lake Nation & Minnesota are inspiring a statewide movement for 100% graduation.
