John-Eggers-Wife

The year 2024 will mark my 60th year in education. While a junior in college, I began teaching in 1964 at a small parochial school in Madison Lake, Minnesota, while attending, at the time, Mankato State College (now Mankato State University at Mankato). A year later, I found myself in the Peace Corps.

This is where I met my wife, Kathy (University of Michigan, 1965) while volunteering in Uruguay (65-67). After the Peace Corps, Kathy and I taught school in Iran and the inner city of North Camden, NJ. I later served as a graduate assistant at Temple University.

Education & Experience

John-Eggers-Peers-2

While working on my doctorate in educational change and innovation at the University of Northern Colorado (74-76), I worked with the Institute for Graduate Studies faculty (IGS) based in Parker, Colorado. I directed their Center For Futuristic Studies and worked full and part-time for IGS (later IGSE) teaching teachers in many states (predominantly Wisconsin) in a Master’s degree program.

During these many years in education, I taught at the Mankato Wilson Campus school, Pine Point Experimental School on the White Earth Reservation. I was a university professor (University of Northern Iowa), Red Lake High School principal, and Naytahwaush charter school director.

Passion in Action

John-Eggers-Parade-100-Percent-Graduation

I am the founder of Project Graduate, which aims for a 100% high school graduation rate for students. In 2024, we plan to launch the first Dropout Prevention Hotline. I am confident that our goal will be reached.

I continue to hone my teaching skills while working with a Peace Corps project called Virtual Service Pilot. I have worked virtually with teachers and students in the Republic of Georgia, Ukraine, Columbia, and Guatemala.

Current Legacy

My wife Kathy and I live on the shores of Lake Julia, north of Bemidji, MN, where the water flows through beautiful Red Lake and then north to Hudson Bay.  We have two grown children and one granddaughter (Alicia, age 6). I try to continue to use the gifts God gave me more than 80 years ago.

Thanks for supporting our 100% movement. Together, we can make it happen.
